You have started your own business and you are excited to see it grow into the business you dreamed about. What do you do first? Goals my friend. BIG…AUDACIOUS…GOALS. In order to make big dreams a reality you have to set goals. Goals are a scary thing, but let’s talk about how to achieve big goals to get that business of yours heading in the right direction.
If still aren’t sure what you want to do and are struggling with deciding what direction to take with your life, check out my post on LIFE AFTER 50 for some inspiration.
To achieve big goals, you have to write them down.
You know what you want to accomplish in your business. You can envision the end result, but without setting goals you will never get there.
So write them down. Every single one of them.
Maybe you want to earn $3k a month by the end of the year. Perhaps you want to add 4 new products to your online store each month. You might want to add a team member by month 6.
Sit down and take 15 minutes to list out what is important and what you want to achieve in your business. Write them on post it notes or on a whiteboard. Make sure they are front and center where you can see them everyday to remind you how you are going to fulfill that dream.
To achieve big goals, you have to break them down.
What are you going to do to earn $3k a month? Maybe you need 3 client projects paying $1000 each or 6 for $500 depending on the services you offer. How many sponsored posts do you need to write on your website to earn $3000?
How will you add 4 new products to your online store each month? Will they be your own products? How will you make them? Are they other people’s products? What level of current revenue will allow you to add those new products each month?
Where do you have to be with your business in order to bring on a team member? How much money do you need to be making? What will your business look like by month 6 that makes it necessary to hire help?
How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time.
In order to achieve big goals you have to break them down into bite size chunks. Now is the time to brainstorm and write down each bite size chunk for each big audacious goal and put them where you will see them every day.
You must set deadlines to achieve your big goals.
Without a deadline, a goal is just a wish. A hope. A dream. You want to build your dream so you have to decide when you will meet each goal you have set for your business.
Be realistic. How much time do you have to work on each one? Do you need extra training to help you with one of your goals? Get out your calendar and work on setting realistic deadlines for those bite size chunks to get you closer to fulfilling those big audacious goals.
Reward yourself when you hit a goal.
No matter how small that bite size chunk might be, if you accomplished it by your deadline, reward yourself! Give yourself a high five, have a doughnut, treat yourself to that Starbuck’s coffee. You are on your way to hitting those BIG AUDACIOUS GOALS.
Big goals aren’t worth achieving if they aren’t a little scary. How will you ever move forward in your business if you are too afraid to set BIG AUDACIOUS GOALS? Write them down, break them down into bite size chunks, then set a deadline.
You got this!
